Artist Bio
Claire Lindsay is an abstract painter based in Llantilio Pertholey, just outside of Abergavenny in south east Wales. Working primarily with acrylic, neon fluorescent and phosphorescent paints, as well as the addition of gold leaf to her larger works, her work explores the movement of thought, process of trauma recovery, and the emotional impact of colour.
Claire has a fascination with the shifting and transformation of paint, colour, and texture across different sources of light and creates pieces that evolve with their environment – offering viewers a dynamic experience, day or night. Her paintings are visual representations of how a single idea can drift, spark, and change form – mirroring the internal landscapes of the mind. With an intuitive approach to colour and texture, Claire invites her audience to find comfort in her luminous, layered canvases and smaller studies.
Claire Lindsay's artistic vision is to create vibrant and abstract art pieces that resonate with emotions and experiences. Her work explores a world of bright colours and unique shapes, inviting viewers to connect with their inner creativity.
With a passion for abstract art, Claire Lindsay's creations are a reflection of her personal journey. Each piece is infused with emotion, capturing moments of escape and healing through a colourful lens.
Claire currently works full time in clinical research and quality management, in addition to working part time for the NHS in Wales.
Claire's passion for art and creating devours the vast majority of her time outside of office hours, although she will admit to spending many of her lunch breaks with a paintbrush in hand.
Claire's inspiration for much of her work stems from being diagnosed several years ago with C-PTSD following a previous abusive marriage and having lived with depression for most of her life.
"I find that painting is a form of meditation to me. I have tried traditional meditation but I really cannot shut the noise off in my head. When I paint I feel calm and focused like no other time in my daily life. I have come to realise that the spheres I repeatedly paint symbolise thoughts and ideas bouncing around in my head; hence the title of one of my paintings 'Cranial Vault'."
